A resident who observes someone who does not live in the building using the building’s laundry machines should let the building’s board or property manager handle the situation, instead of taking action themselves.

Partner Tracy Peterson spoke with Brick Underground about how to handle this issue, noting that the board can decide to invest in security cameras or install new locks, and instruct the managing agent to find a vendor. It’s also important to understand who the individual is, and what rules the board has in place, Tracy added. That person may be a guest of a co-op owner, and the board may have governing rules for guests using the laundry facilities.
